Vincent M. Dinsio, Jr.

Vincent “Vince” M. Dinsio Jr., age 73, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 4, 1948 to Vincent and Josephine (Stimolo) Dinsio.

Vince was a Roman Catholic altar boy and a Boy Scout. He shined shoes endlessly to earn money and eventually quit school to help his mother with finances at home. He also loved playing dice in the hopes of winning. Vince’s first real job was with Dunn and Bradstreet in downtown Chicago.  

He was drafted into the U.S. Army just days after turning eighteen. After boot camp and medical training, he was sent to Vietnam where he was a medic in the demilitarized zone. He was then transferred to Cam Ranh Bay where guerillas invaded and bombed the facility. Only seven survived, including Vince. He escaped and went deep into the villages until he was found nine months later by the Red Cross. He served two tours as a Sergeant, serving honorably and earning several medals for his service to our country.

Months after returning home to Chicago from Vietnam, Vince decided to move to Ohio to work with his biological father building flatbed trailers for hauling heavy equipment. He then worked as a master welder for Rowban United Fabricating. Later, he opened a chain of Mr. V's Barbecue Ribs with five locations, until the collapse of the Youngstown Steel Mills which forced many businesses to close. His successes included developing and patenting Mr. V's Barbeque Sauce selling it in bottles and by the gallon, and winning the National Rib Burn Off.

Next, Vince opened an Italian restaurant in Austintown, OH, known as Mother's Place. He did well, but he felt the need for a change. He converted his restaurant into a bar/restaurant called The Voodoo Lounge in Austintown. This business was very successful and would continue to thrive for many years until his health declined. 

As a child, Vince insisted that his sister/brother/friend, Bert, accompany him everywhere. He loved playing with marbles, erector sets, and Lionel trains, which Vince and Bert always did together. Where Vince went, Bert went and were inseparable friends. A fond childhood memory was when he won the best marble shooter championship in Chicago, winning a new Schwinn bicycle and seeing his picture in the Chicago Tribune.

Vince could take anything and build something. If it could be done, he'd find a way to make it happen. His kindness towards all people had no limits. He was the most generous person you could know in your life. Even more, he was a true warrior through Agent Orange and cancer, a real champion in all areas of his life. He just kept going like an Eveready battery. Vince always made things happen for himself and others; and everyone he met loved him and he loved them back.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Marshall; father, Vincent Michael Dinsio Sr.; nephew Ronald Salvaggio (DJ Bodge); godfather, Charles Parisie; stepdad, (Papa) Daniel Tamburino; uncle, Joseph Parisie; uncle, Nicholas Tedesco; aunt, Roselyn Parisie; uncle, William Dinsio, Sr. of Salem, OH; aunt, Ethyl Dinsio of Salem, OH; uncle, James Dinsio of Salem, OH; aunt, Viola Barber of Anaheim, CA; uncle, Gene Blakeman of Columbiana, OH; and aunt, Linda Mulligan Dinsio of Youngstown, OH.

Vince’s memory will be cherished by his daughter, Danielle Dinsio Murphy (Michael); son, Vincent Michael Dinsio III; granddaughter, Mia Blaise Murphy; sister, Maria Dinsio Leclaire of Ashley Circle, OH; sister, Bert J. Dinsio (spouse Patricia Lyons) of Sandy Township, OH; sister, Dr. Kasheena Starr of Scottsdale, AZ; half-sister, Rae Jean Nichols of Berlin Center; half-sister, Kimberly Zigler Dinsio of Hartville, OH; godmother, Angela Hoffer of Orlando, FL; mother of his children, Kathleen Vasko (Ken) of Saybrook, OH; uncle, Amil Dinsio of Boardman, OH; aunt, Pelma Blakeman of Columbiana, OH; aunt, Linda Lippetto Dinsio of Salem, OH; cousin and friend, William "Billy" Dinsio of Salem, OH;  cousin and friend, Guy Tedesco of Chicago, IL; and numerous other cousins.

To celebrate Vince's life his family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S. Silvat, Inc., 3896 Oakwood Ave., Austintown, OH 44515.  Prayers will be said at 6:45 pm.
