Rodney William Slade, Jr., age 94, of Youngstown, OH, formerly of New Castle, PA for many years, transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. He was born on February 20, 1927, the son of Rodney W. Slade, Sr. and Lilian Rankin of Mount Holly, NC.
He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed at Camp Beale in California. He was later employed at National Stone Company and Johnson Bronze in New Castle, PA. He enjoyed listening to music and was an avid hunter and fisherman, which earned him the nickname, "Shotgun Slade."
Rodney was married to Juanita Alexander. Through this union four children were born, Rosalyn, Sharon, William and Iris. He later married Eileen Freed with whom he had Kelvin and Melissa, and a stepson, Sammy D.
He leaves to forever cherish his memory his children and a host of five generations of grandchildren. Rodney is also survived by his brothers, Roland (Bolade) Slade and Barry (Mazola) W. Slade.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cleophaus; sister, Lena Holiman; granddaughter, Kelley Watkins; and grandchildren, Remell Allah, Ryan Slade and Ste'Vaya Slade.
A Memorial Service will be held in Rodney's honor on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Youngstown Community Center, 1413 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44504.
