Michael Koncheck Obituary

Michael A. Koncheck 76, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 17th, 2019, at his home. He was born December 7, 1942 in Youngstown, OH.  A son of Andrew and Helen (Shopinsky) Koncheck.

Mike was a 1962 graduate of Boardman High School and a life long area resident of Boardman. He was a member of the Army Reserves from 1964 - 1970 out of Beaver Falls, PA.  He worked as a bodyman for Sweda’s Auto Body and later as a machinist for Metal Carbides both in Boardman. In the 70’s and 80’s he worked as a machinist at both Wean United in Austintown and Commercial Shearing in Youngstown. Upon Wean’s closing he began working at American Standard in Salem where he would work as a millwright until his retirement in 2007 after over 20 years of service.

Mike had several hobbies throughout his lifetime. Including cars, model trains, model planes, and model ships.  But his favorite hobby was building and displaying fireworks. Mike received several awards from the Pyrotechnics Guild International at their annual conventions in the 80’s and 90’s. He also participated as a shooter/ displayer with several local firework companies.  Mike’s finest hour was his own 4th of July firework displays he held every year from 1966 - 1986.  His only daughter was born on one of those 4th of Julys in 1972 which made it even more special for him.

Mike leaves his wife of 53 years the former Jeannie B. Susany whom he married April 24th, 1965. A son, Andrew M. Koncheck of Boardman and a daughter, Shelly (Randy) Calabria also of Boardman. And one grandchild, Kendal L. Calabria who he affectionately referred to as his “baby doll”.  He also leaves a brother-in-law Mark (Rose) Susany and a sister-in-law Martha (Magdy) Iskander. He leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins, co-workers, neighbors, and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by both his parents and a step-father Edward Glazer, his sister Marlene (Fritz) Mears and her first husband Gene Inskeep. His in-laws Andrew (Mary) Susany and a Brother-in-law James Susany.

A memorial dinner in his honor will be held on Friday, January 25th, 2019 at the Georganna Parker Center in Boardman Park from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm.  There will be no church services
