Helen Coleman Obituary

Mrs. Helen (Kohut) Coleman, born on November 27, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Mary (Pawuk) Kohut and the late Michael Kohut, passed away at age 93 on May 17, 2019 in Poland, Ohio.

Helen graduated from The Rayen School in 1943. She married the late Charles P. Coleman in 1949 and raised four children on Youngstown’s West Side.

Though primarily a mother and home maker (and excellent ones at that!), Helen did find time for occasional work at Isaly’s, and tending bar at her brother Williams’s Rex Tavern on Market Street.  Later in life, she worked at Piece Goods and Walmart in Austintown.  Helen enjoyed sewing and dabbled in painting.  More recently, she found great joy in frequenting local wineries with her daughters, nieces and beloved sister, Nanny.  Unlike many of her generation, Helen became quite the “techie” and used her tablet computer to keep abreast of the comings and goings of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Venisa Coleman; brothers, William Kohut and Michael Kohut; and sisters, Katherine Kohut, Ann Hanni and Stephanie Yozwiak.  Helen is survived by her son, Charles M. (Holly) Coleman of Canfield; daughters, Naomi (William) Sherick of Canfield, Mary K. Coleman of Poland, with whom she made her home, and Melissa (Edward) Brudzinski of Alliance; sister, Nancy D’Amico; grandchildren, Sarah Coleman, Seth Sherick, and Rachel Sherick; and great-grandchildren, Brittany Sellers and Brooklyn Sellers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Armand Minotti for his compassionate care of Helen; and MVI Hospice Care for their kindness to Helen and her family.  Donations in Helen's name to MVI Hospice Care are welcome and appreciated.
