On Monday, April 22, 2019, Barron J. Vodhanel, age 67, of Youngstown, OH, passed away at Washington Square Healthcare Center in Warren, OH, after a year long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Youngstown on March 26, 1952 to the late John S. and Mary (Hrifko) Vodhanel.
Barron is survived by his dearly loved daughter, Valinda Vodhanel of Youngstown; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Patterson of Mineral Ridge; niece, Carrie (Mason) Seachrist of Canfield; nephew, David (Amy) Patterson of Uniontown, OH; three great nephews, Grant, Trevor Seachrist and Dylan Patterson.
Barron was a 1970 graduate of Chaney High School, member of St. Christine Church, attended basic training at Great Lakes Navy Center in Illinois and honorably serviced his country with the United States Navy 7th Fleet.
After his military service, Barron worked in the steel mills as a laborer and ended his working career with American Church Envelope Manufacturer.
Barron enjoyed bowling, golfing, TV sports and had a fondness for animals, especially his dog, Leo, and his aquarium tropical fish.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Palliative Cancer Care Department at Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC, the staff of Hospice of the Valley and the Mahoning Veterans Outpatients Clinic for the kindness and care given to Barron.
Burial took place in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors.
