Charlotte Louise (Shonce) DeChellis

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Charlotte L. DeChellis, age 79, of Canfield, OH passed away at Windsor House in Canfield. She was born June 23, 1944, in Youngstown, OH to Frank and Viola (Brickley) Shonce. 

Charlotte was employed as a cashier and merchandiser for many years and she worked for several retail stores during her career including Burlington, Big Lots, Pep Boys, Western Auto and Hills Dept. Store. 

Charlotte was a wonderful mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family. She took pride in caring for her son John and she enjoyed reading the comics that he wrote especially Brownie. Charlotte loved her children and grandchildren and she always made the time to attend their sporting events. She was also a terrific cook and baker. Making delicious meals for her family and serving them her tasty pies and cookies was something she was great at and she loved to do. Her life revolved around her family and she loved to spend time with them whenever she could.  Her family's love and dog's companionship enriched her life. 

To relax, she often spent her time gardening, shopping, or organizing things around the house. During the holiday season, Charlotte decorated her home beautifully. In warmer weather, she loved being near the water and she always looked forward to her trips to Lake Erie with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

She is survived by her children, John Jacob DeChellis of Austintown, OH, Jennifer Lyn (Ron Jr.) Houser of Austintown, OH, Deana Marie (Joe) Beck of Niles, OH; grandchildren, Jacob Andrew Houser and Zoey Mattea Beck; brother, Gene Shonce; ex-husband, LeRoy Benson and last but not least, her beloved dog, Lady Diane.

Besides her parents, Charlotte was also preceded in death by her previous husband, Jacob DeChellis; brother, Raymond Shonce; sister, Donna Harnevious. 

A private Memorial Service was held for her on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery.
